Water and earth have always known how to find each other.
This vessel was born from that meeting — two clay bodies, dark and pale, worked together by hand until they found their own logic. Not blended into something uniform, but layered the way a riverbed actually is: dark sediment below, pale sand above, and between them that irreducible middle zone where neither one is finished becoming the other.
The dark stoneware holds the base and belly. The pale clay rises through it — not painted on, not applied after, but present from the beginning, part of the same making. Where they meet at the midline.
The rim opens wide, slightly irregular, tipped at one side — the way water finds its lowest point. Two low slab handles sit flush at the shoulder, steady as stones mid-current.
To hold this piece is to hold something that was soft twice: once as earth, once as river clay yielding to water. The fire made it permanent. But the memory of that softness stayed in the surface.
One of a kind. Not repeated.
